Sacred Moments | Evensong Sunset

Sunsets

Bible Study for You by Pastor David (biblestudyforyou.com)

As the day closes, sunset becomes a symbolic time to lift up our prayers…Sunsets serve as an opportunity to align our hearts with God in worship and reflection.

Sunsets in the Bible often symbolize God’s artistry, peace, and the end of each day’s labors. They remind believers of God’s constant presence, even as darkness approaches, and often serve as metaphors for life’s transitions, rest, and trust in God’s care. These verses celebrate the beauty of creation, reflect on the significance of each day, and inspire a sense of gratitude and reverence for God’s provision and creative power.

Psalm 113:3

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Psalm 65:8

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.

Psalm 92:2

Proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.

Psalm 19:1

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

The Sun

by Mary Oliver

Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful
than the way the sun,
every evening,
relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon
and into the clouds or the hills,
or the rumpled sea,
and is gone–
and how it slides again
out of the blackness,
every morning,
on the other side of the world,
like a red flower
streaming upward on its heavenly oils,
say, on a morning in early summer,
at its perfect imperial distance–
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love–
do you think there is anywhere, in any
language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure
that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you
as you stand there,
empty-handed–
or have you too
turned from this world–
or have you too
gone crazy
for power,
for things?

Softly the evening came with the sunset Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Evensong
by Keith & Krystn Getty

Now, as I lay me down to sleep

I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep

Oh guard me in Thy tender care

Thy presence calm my every fear

Now, as I lay me down to rest

My wrongful heart I do confess

Oh Savior, cleanse me from my sin

Bring peace with Thee and peace with men

Now, as my children gently sleep

May love and beauty fill their dreams

I pray they seek Thy prefect rest

And on Thy promise lay their heads

Amen, Amen

Amen, Amen

Amen, Amen

By Thy grace to rise again

Now, turn our hearts toward Thy way

Help those in doubt, in loss, in pain

Oh Lord, have mercy on this world

Thy song of hope be ever heard

Christ As A Light/Prayer of St. Patrick

as recorded by John Michael Talbot

Christ as a light
Illume and guide me
Christ as a shield, o'ershadow me
Christ under me
Christ over me
Christ beside me
On my left and my right

This day be within and without me
Lowly and meek yet all-powerful
Be in the heart
Of each to whom I speak
In the mouth of each
Who speaks unto me

This day be within and without me
Lowly and meek yet all-powerful
Christ as a light
Christ as a shield
Christ beside me
On my left and my right
